Your relationship with every horse you ride is based on how well you understand the forces on his/her body in motion, and how those forces affect your body and mind.
Gravity, speed, centrifugal force and the everyday distractions of the outside world (crisp packet in the hedge, scary leaves, arena banners or strange horse getting too close at a show) all have a huge impact on how your horse responds to you. You can’t fight gravity, and nor can your horse. Horses don’t need your sympathy, they need your help!
Horses need you to apply your mind and body and tune into them. As your skill levels increase, you will be amazed at how quickly problems seem to just dissolve and solutions appear as if by magic.
“People come to me asking them to help me with their horse. What I see is the horse asking me to please help me with my rider!”
Nothing in The Scales of Riding relies on anything other than you applying your mind and body in a way that helps your horse. The principles do not require you to change your horse, your tack, use gadgets or shortcuts of any sort. They simply allow the rider to become a better load to carry and understand why horses react they way they do. The Scales are based on educating and training yourself so that you can apply classical riding knowledge and skills to your everyday riding experiences.
The Scales of Training for horses sit neatly alongside The Scales of Riding. They compliment each other perfectly. As riders build more solid foundation skills, they make The Scales of Training for the horse easier to understand and apply.
